Wimbledon No.1 Court Roof Unveiled At This Year’s Tournament19 July 2019
All eyes were on SW19 this month as we were treated to some truly epic battles on the courts of Wimbledon. Coco Gauff was the breakout star, the 15 year old making a storming first impression making it all the way to the 4th round on a wild card qualifier. The men’s final was one for the ages, with old rivals Federer and Djokovic fighting it out over an epic 5 sets that had a nation gripped (well, switching between that and the cricket, it was a tense day in the world of sport!).
Our eyes however were fixed on that shiny new roof on No.1 court, freshly unveiled at this year’s tournament. Although we were lucky with the weather this year so it wasn’t needed as shelter from the rain, the new roof meant that matches could continue late into the night, so tennis fans were treated to even more amazing game play. We are proud to have played our part in the project, we coated the external louvres on the new structure, and don’t they look impressive!
The budget for the project was an impressive £70m and has been in the works for 3 years. It takes round 10 minutes to fully close, and then it needs 20 minutes for the air conditioning to adjust so that the court is ready for indoor play. This long-awaited addition will mean lucky ticket holders can enjoy even more epic matches at Wimbledon for years to come – true fans know that No 1 Court is where the real gritty battles play out…
