St Peter’s School students remember former pupils with the help of C&O

C&O Powder Coatings have a long association with St Peter’s School stretching back almost 43 years with both Arthur and Tom Holmes having attended the school.

In 2020 St Peter’s launched a competition to design a Remembrance Day Memorial for the campus which would be unveiled in November 2021. The project set out to honour former pupils who have served in the forces, as well as marking the 40th Anniversary of the Falklands War.

Arthur Holmes takes up the story, “The school had a great response to the competition with the winning design being selected because it showcased the diverse roles undertaken by the forces throughout history using a series of iconic silhouettes.”

He continued, “The designs required metal fabrication and because the displays were to be located inside and outside the metal would need protecting from the elements. The school turned to the former pupils association, the Old Peterites, for support and when we heard what was needed we were very keen to help out as we knew that powder coating would be the best solution.”

To support the project C&O brought in Darren Davies from Davies Fabrication, a metal fabricator who they had worked with previously. With his years of experience in metal fabrication, Darren gave technical advice and support to the students particularly with some of the more in intricate designs. His knowledge and expertise was key in getting the final designs completed.

Once the final winning designs were agreed upon, Davies Fabrication then supplied the steelwork and precision lasering of the designs. Each of the nine silhouettes was then powder coated by C&O on their new production line before being finished off by the students.

The final designs were unveiled during a Remembrance Day Service at the school in November and are now on display around the school campus with the figures and plaques being lit each evening.

Arthur said, ”It was a real pleasure to be part of a project that created a lasting memorial to those people that have served in the forces over the years. The whole team at C&O played their part in ensuring everything went smoothly including some of our team coming in on a Saturday morning to run the production line.”
