CARDIFF UNIVERSITY ARCHITECT WANTED25 June 2015
CARDIFF UNIVERSITY IS ON THE HUNT FOR AN ARCHITECT FOR ITS NEW £300 MILLION INNOVATION CAMPUS
The high-profile project will deliver four new research centres on the brownfield Mainy Road site in Cathays.
Proposed new buildings include a Social Science Research Park; an Innovation Centre; a Translational Multidisciplinary Research Facility, and the Research Institute for Compound Semiconductor Technology.
The contract is divided into two tranches and with separate lots calling for architects; masterplanners and principal designers; project managers; cost consultants; civil and structural engineers; and mechanical, electrical and public health engineers.
Moses Cameron Williams Architects defeated Foster + Partners, HOK, Wilkinson Eyre, Allies and Morrison, Stride Treglown and Sheppard Robson in a competition to masterplan all of Cardiff’s campuses last year.
Earlier this year the university launched a design competition for a new £25 million student union building. The competition was later withdrawn and re-launched in April.
Completed structures on the Mainy Road site include the £30 million Hadyn Ellis Building (pictured) designed by IBI Nightingale. A second £50 million building by the same architect is due to complete later this year.
The deadline for requests to participate in the latest project is 12noon on 20 July.
