ARCHITECT WANTED FOR £1.5M EDINBURGH UNIVERSITY
26 January 2016AN ARCHITECT IS SOUGHT TO DEVELOP AN ARCHIVE CENTRE FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF EDINBURGH
The new facility will be housed in an existing university warehouse, creating a collections facility 800m² in size.
According to the contract notice: ‘Two of the university occupied sections of the building currently house a range of university collections which include books, journals, archives, manuscripts and letters, heritage collections, ancient musical instruments, artworks and museum objects. These units also accommodate staff offices and a conservation studio.
The document continued: ‘The existing building is constructed of a steel portal frame, with block work walls and insulated profiled metal cladding located beneath a double pitched insulated profiled metal clad roof. Externally the building is surrounded by grassed areas within security fencing to the North and West sides, and a secure car parking to the South and East sides.’
Winning architect team set to be announced on 25th March with the contract set to be worth around £120,000 or 8% of the project total.
