ARCHITECT WANTED FOR £25M BOURNEMOUTH CULTURAL QUARTER

The new facility which will overlook Poole Bay is being commissioned by the Bournemouth Development company (BDC) and it will replace a number of car parks in the area with a new 300-seat theatre, ninety room hotel and museum. In addition the site will also provide a host of new public spaces, restaurants and 400- capacity car pack.

According to the brief: ‘The successful project will seek to enhance the operations and visitor experience at the Pavilion, draw more people along Westover Road and open up further views across Bournemouth’s most prized natural assets, its beaches and gardens.

‘Significant public realm investment is envisaged in the project, linking the new Cultural Quarter to the beaches, town centre and forthcoming Winter Gardens development via a new Grand Garden Walk.’

The BDC was set up in 2011 by partners Bournemouth council with Morgan Sindall, the aim is to redevelop a key number of sites in the town.     

6 short listed practices will be asked to take part in the design process later on this month.

The winner will be selected in March with the aim of acquiring planning permission in the autumn time.
